Know Violence Against Women

In the second year, we were given the opportunity to work with the Cambridge Police and ‘Know Violence Against Women’ an organisation that promotes women’s safety and pulls the curtain back on the female experience living in a city. We were tasked with creating a series of posters/pieces that illustrated the female experience of nightlife when living in Cambridge as well as men’s ‘Red Flags’. The live brief took place over a couple of weeks, with an exhibition taking place in the Grand Arcade in central Cambridge in the final week. I was also interviewed by radio stations and ITV News on the work I had produced.

As someone who has experienced catcalling many times, I focussed my project on this. I saw this as an opportunity to illustrate the daily vulgar language men use to describe women and interviewed one of my friends on her experience with catcalling. The reaction I got from the public was very powerful.
